Scholarships & Awards

The Southeastern Registrars Association will sponsor two $750 travel scholarships to assist SERA members in attending the Southeastern Museums Conference Annual Meeting. To be eligible, applicants must perform registration or collections management duties within the 12 state Southeastern region and/or Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and be current SERA members. Members who have received a travel award in the last 3 years are not eligible to reapply. Candidates may apply in one of two categories:

 

1) Emerging collections professionals:  This scholarship is intended to assist individuals who are relatively new to the registration/collections management/preparation profession. Award eligibility requires less than ten years of experience in the collections field.

 

2) Seasoned collections professionals:  This scholarship is intended to assist those persons with established careers in the registration/collections management/preparation profession. Award eligibility requires ten years or more experience in the collections field.

 

Criteria for all awards include, but are not limited to: demonstrated merit in the field of registration, collections management, or preparation; educational background; activity in professional organizations; ability to share knowledge gained at the conference with others; and financial need. Preference will be given to those who have not received a SERA Travel Award in the past. Award winners will be required to attend the SERA Affinity luncheon at the conference, and provide a written report on one of the SERA-sponsored sessions for inclusion in SERA News. Winners will also be recognized at the SEMC Business Meeting/Award Luncheon. All eligible SERA members are encouraged to apply.

ARCS Travel Scholarship

The Southeastern Registrars Association is pleased to sponsor a $750 travel scholarship to assist one SERA member in attending the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists Biennial Meeting. To be eligible, applicants must perform registration or collection management duties within the 12 state Southeastern region and/or Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and be current SERA members.

 

To apply for the scholarship, please submit the following:

  • Completed application form

  • Cover letter stating your goals for attending the ARCS Biennial Meeting

  • Current résumé

  • Two letters of recommendation (one from your immediate supervisor, if applicable)

 

The winner of the travel scholarship will be required to review one of the sessions at the meeting for publication in SERA News.

Dan Silosky Award for Excellence in

Collections Management and Registration

This annual award recognizes an individual registrar or collections professional for their outstanding contribution to the field. Nominees must have five or more years of experience in registration or collections management and work in the Southeastern United States. Three letters of support are required for each nomination. 

 

This memorial award honors long time SERA member Dan Silosky.  He is remembered for his dedication to the profession, witty outlook on life and love of scholarship.  A vital member of SERA , he served as corresponding secretary (1984-1988), was the West Virginia State Representative and chaired the 1992 Membership Survey.

AAM Travel Scholarships

The Southeastern Registrars Association is pleased to sponsor a $750 travel scholarship to assist one SERA member in attending the American Alliance of Museums’ Annual Meeting. To be eligible, applicants must perform registration or collection management duties within the 12 state Southeastern region and/or Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and be current SERA members.

 

To apply for the scholarship, please submit the following:

  • Completed application form

  • Cover letter stating your goals for attending the AAM Annual Meeting

  • Current résumé

  • Two letters of recommendation (one from your immediate supervisor, if applicable)

 

The winner of the travel scholarship will be required to attend the CS-AAM Business Luncheon at the Annual Meeting, and to review one of the CS-AAM sponsored sessions at the conference for publication in SERA News.
